Mike James grinded out 39 yards on 10 carries against the Panthers in Week 8. He also added four receptions for another 25 yards on the night.
Mike James proves in Week 8 he isn’t much a fantasy option
With Doug Martin out, there doesn’t appear to be a reliable replacement in the Buccaneers backfield. We break down the fantasy implications.

With Doug Martin out, James is the featured back in the Buccaneers rushing attack. However, with a struggling offense and little experience, James will likely continue to find little room to run.
Fantasy impact: James was a popular waiver wire pick-up, but it was probably a waste for most owners. The Bucs take him out in third-down situations, and he hasn’t brought much explosion to the table so far.
Martin is looking at a Week 10 return at this point. That date could be pushed back, depending on how his shoulder recovers, but until then James will remain in charge of the majority of the Bucs carries. Don’t bother looking ahead, though. Tampa heads to Seattle next week. James is merely a flex play, if that.
