It’s hard to believe that a wide receiver came within seven yards of setting a single-game record for receiving yards in Week 8. It’s even harder to believe that there was a receiver who could equal his fantasy point total in that same week.
Fantasy football waiver wire advice, Week 9: Marvin Jones
The Bengals had a receiver top the fantasy football leaderboards in Week 8 -- and it wasn’t A.J. Green. We break down the fantasy implications.

Bengals receiver Marvin Jones is the culprit, as his eight catches for 122 yards and a whopping four touchdowns equaled the same amount of standard fantasy points that Calvin Johnson posted in his 329-yard barnburner. The New York Jets just didn't have an answer for Jones, who saw plenty of real estate with A.J. Green drawing the attention of the secondary.
Fantasy Spin: Jones is sure to be the hottest waiver-wire pickup this week after his performance, and he is every bit worth the stash. His talent is undeniable and he has quickly emerged as a much-needed receiving threat opposite Green.
The only issue that owners must take note of is his usage. Despite his gaudy totals, Jones played in just 19 snaps, or 12 fewer than Mohamed Sanu, who is the usual starting receiver along with Green. The kind of production that Jones posted isn't sustainable for receivers with a full game's worth of snaps, let alone one who did not get in for a third of them.
Jones may have given his coaches no choice but to give him more playing time, and it would be hard to imagine that they don’t oblige. But at this point, Jones has never played more than 38 snaps in a game, and until he gets more consistent usage, he is worth a bench spot and not much more.
