Minnesota Vikings running backs Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart were both held out of practice on Thursday. Both players plan on testing their injuries on Friday.
Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart miss practice, Gerhart the safer fantasy bet
The Vikings were without their top two running backs on Thursday, but aren’t ready to rule either player out yet. We break down the fantasy implications.

Peterson suffered a sprained foot in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. X-Rays and an MRI all came back clean with no structural damage, and he was able to shed his walking boot this week. Gerhart filled in for Peterson, but tweaked his hamstring while making a 41-yard touchdown run. Head coach Leslie Frazier remains more optimistic on Gerhart's status than Peterson's.
Fantasy impact: We should have more clarity after Friday's injury report, but right now Gerhart remains the safe bet to get the majority of carries. With the Vikings out of the playoff race, Frazier has hinted at easing the load on Peterson over the final three games. It's a bummer for fantasy owners hoping to ride Peterson through their playoff runs. If healthy, Gerhart will be a capable RB2/flex play against the Eagles' soft defense.
