Fantasy Impact: It’s a tough break for Romo and potentially a fatal blow for the Cowboys. Romo was having a great fantasy season. He’ll finish the year with 3,828 yards passing, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and a 63.9 percent completion rate. He proved to be a fantastic fantasy value relative to his mid-round ADP and owners playing in Week 17 finals will have trouble replacing the QB1. Orton will take over and Romo will have to wait another year to try to shed his supposed “can’t-win-the-big-game” label.
Orton hasn’t started a game since 2011 and has attempted five passes for Dallas this season. While he does bring veteran experience, his career passer rating is under 80 and the former fourth-round pick has never been much of a playmaker. He does have a favorable matchup in Philadelphia’s bottom-five defense, but Romo owners are still much better off with a waiver-wire quarterback who has at least started a game this year.
