The New York Jets quarterback battle raged on as the team got back to practice on Monday. Mark Sanchez, who started the first preseason game, looked good by all accounts, while Geno Smith struggled and seemed to favor his injured ankle.
Geno Smith still favoring ankle at practice, Mark Sanchez playing well
Geno Smith is still favoring his injured ankle at Jets practice, but Mark Sanchez is shining. We break down the fantasy implications.

Sanchez threw at least one short touchdown pass, and hit a receiver deep for another that would have been his second, and didn't throw an interception or lose a fumble, which is a big step for him at this point. Smith, on the other hand, threw a short touchdown but also threw an interception to Isaiah Trufant.
Smith left the first preseason game with a right ankle injury, but returned to practice quickly and suggests he will play in Week 2. That said, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News noted that Smith is still favoring that right ankle, and that he “doesn’t look right,” despite being able to make the throws. Just another thing to watch out for at this point.
Fantasy Impact: Mark Sanchez is turnover-prone, but he’s occasionally provided a solid number of touchdowns for fantasy owners. He’s looking on-track to win the starting battle if Smith can’t get healthy and impress in one of these games, which would eliminate Smith from the possible “boom or bust” drafting method as something of an unknown commodity. Right now, the Jets quarterbacks are a huge fantasy red flag.
