Rob Gronkowski participates in individual drills, fantasy owners on standby
Rob Gronkowski participated in individual drills during practice on Monday. We break down the fantasy implications.
The Patriots have five days to make a decision on whether or not Gronkowski will remain on the PUP list. If they keep him on the list, he will not count toward the 53-man roster limit, but he will have to remain on the list for the first six weeks of the season. Gronkowski is recovering from back surgery.
It seems likely that the Patriots are trying to see how far along he is, and whether or not they think he’ll be able to return prior to the team’s sixth game. If so, it seems likely the Patriots would let him ride on the active roster, as his potential impact for a game or two seems higher than, say, someone who simply plays special teams.
Fantasy Impact: A significant injury history and a present ride on the PUP list have done little to deter Gronkowski’s believers from making him a high pick in fantasy football. He’s mostly been the second tight end drafted behind New Orleans’ Jimmy Graham, and with the Patriots getting Gronkowski on the field to actually evaluate where he is, clarity could be just around the corner. Most believe he’ll avoid the PUP list at this point, and getting Gronkowski for any significant portion of the regular season could mean the difference between success or failure in your fantasy football season.
