New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is unlikely to play in the Week 1 opener. The Jets say that he is still day to day, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that some in the organization fear that Sanchez "could be out longer."
Mark Sanchez unlikely to play Week 1, unlikely to be a fantasy factor
The Jets are still saying Mark Sanchez is day to day, but he’s not likely to suit up in Week 1. We break down the fantasy implications.

Sanchez left last week’s preseason game with a shoulder injury. The team is simply saying that he has a bruised shoulder and will not elaborate on the nature of his injury. Rookie Geno Smith may end up getting the start if Sanchez isn’t ready to go.
Fantasy impact: Once again, the Jets quarterback situation is a mess. Smith flopped hard in the preseason and is clearly not ready to play in 2013, but if Sanchez is out for a while the team may not have a choice. Fantasy owners should stay far, far away from this situation, just as they did in 2012. Smith is only worth a roster stash in Dynasty leagues.
