Browns add Willis McGahee to the backfield, but fantasy owners could do better
In wake of exchanging Trent Richardson to the Colts for a first-round pick, the Browns have added veteran running back Willis McGahee. We break down the fantasy implications.

The news comes as much less of a surprise than Wednesday's news of the team trading Trent Richardson to the Colts in exchange for a first-round pick, and it appears McGahee will soon enough fill Richardson's spot atop the Browns depth chart. The 31-year-old veteran provided a nice complement to the Broncos backfield a season ago, posting three 100-yard games and totaling 731 yards in just 10 games.
Fantasy Spin: McGahee will not likely see much action in Week Three as he will likely need some time to absorb the Browns playbook and get properly conditioned for a decent workload. Chris Ogbonnaya and Bobby Rainey may get some work early on, but the writing is on the wall for McGahee to assume the main ball-carrying responsibility in Cleveland. However, expectations should be tempered. If an elusive back like Trent Richardson struggled to produce in the Browns offense, odds are that a veteran who went from the couch to the gridiron in a matter of days will not post better results. When McGahee is good to go, he deserves consideration as a desperation flex play and nothing more.
