San Francisco 49ers
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has put together a solid year thus far. While he hasn't stuffed the stat sheet too many times, he's found the end zone seven times through the air and there's always the possibility that he takes one into the end zone himself. The dual threat is a lower-end QB1.
Running back Frank Gore has been somewhat of an ageless wonder. In his 10th season with over 2,200 carries on his resume, Gore has refused to subscribe to the "running backs over 30 have nothing left" rule of thumb. Last week was his second consecutive performance over 100 yards rushing and he's averaging a robust 4.7 YPC on the year along with two touchdowns, one through the air. Gore remains a legit high-end RB2.
While we're on the topic of ageless wonders, 34-year-old wide receiver Anquan Boldin still finds ways to get it done as well. He's caught 25 passes for 303 yards through five games. Although he hasn't found the end zone yet, he's a part of the game plan and a serviceable WR4. Fellow receiver Michael Crabtree has struggled as of late and has been a hit or miss WR2. After missing the last week due to a back injury, it looks like they will get tight end Vernon Davis back.
It's fair to say that quarterback Austin Davis has exceeded expectations. He was thrusted into the starting gig after starting the year off as the rookie third-string quarterback. He started the year off slowly but has picked it up with six touchdown passes in the last two weeks and has a 67.8 completion percentage on the year. He's worth a look as a QB2.
Running back Zac Stacy has been somewhat of a fantasy disappointment this year. Stacy entered the season as a RB1 prospect but hasn't been able to meet those expectations. He has one touchdown on the year and hasn't run for more than 71 yards in a game. He's also battling a calf injury and isn't a strong RB2 play.
One of the few bright spots of this offense has been wide receiver Brian Quick. In the one game where Quick didn't have at least five receptions, he still managed 62 yards and a touchdown on two catches. The third-year receiver has established himself as a must-start WR3. Former first-round pick Tavon Austin has been a major disappointment thus far and has barely been involved in the offense. Tight end Jared Cook is quietly having a consistent TE2 campaign although he hasn't found the end zone. He offers much more value in PPR than in standard leagues.
