Bills fantasy football recap: Scott Chandler, Chris Hogan produce; big names are quiet

The most productive players in the Buffalo offense Sunday were the least-owned players. We break down the fantasy implications.

Brett Carlsen

The Buffalo Bills couldn't build on the momentum from their Week 5 win Sunday, falling to the New England Patriots, 37-22. Despite the loss, the Bills put up 336 yards in the game, with three touchdowns.

The Buffalo running game couldn’t get much traction in Sunday’s game, but there were plenty of passing yards to go around. Let’s look at the fantasy implications:

Kyle Orton

In his second start as a Bill, Orton managed 15 fantasy points in Sunday’s game. He threw for 299 yards on 24-of-38 passing in the game, with two touchdown passes. Orton did throw an interception and lose a fumble, but 29 fantasy points in two games for a guy who was basically retired a couple months ago is nice to see. Orton isn’t currently useful in fantasy, but he should be good enough to keep the other Bills’ values high.

Fred Jackson

While his ascension to the top spot in the team's backfield is complete, Jackson's day Sunday only looks decent because he found the end zone on a 1-yard rush in the third quarter. He led the team in rushing yards, but that was only 26 yards on 10 carries, adding 17 receiving yards on four catches. C.J. Spiller, who actually got the start Sunday, offered nothing in fantasy. He lost a fumble on the opening drive, and ended the game with only 19 yards on six carries, for a negative fantasy day. You can't start Spiller any time soon.

Sammy Watkins

We thought the move to Orton would be the savior for Watkins' value, and it looked that way last week, but the rookie receiver was shut down by Darrelle Revis, with only two catches on 27 yards. He remains a boom-or-bust receiver who is tough to start unless you're desperate.

Robert Woods

With Watkins stranded on Revis Island, Woods had his first big game of the season. He caught seven passes for 78 yards and a touchdown in Sunday, targeted a team-leading 10 times. Second-year receiver Chris Hogan also had a big game with Mike Williams out, catching five passes for 72 yards and a score. Neither receiver is a fantasy starter -- heck, neither one is likely even worth owning in any but the deepest of leagues -- but a big game is a big game.

Scott Chandler

It stood to reason that a new quarterback would lead to more dump-off passes to the tight end, but Chandler’s game Sunday was still surprising. The tight end had two or fewer fantasy points in four of five games before going for 105 yards on six catches Sunday. It was the first 100-yard game of Chandler’s career, and while he isn’t a starting tight end in fantasy by any means, you could do way worse for an occasional fill-in.
