Carolina Panthers
After seemingly struggling with a rib injury and off to limit his running ability, the Panthers' coaching staff let quarterback Cam Newton loose last week against the Cincinnati Bengals. Newton ran the ball a staggering 17 times for 107 yards rushing and also threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns to go with an interception. The game went to overtime, allowing Newton to continue racking up the fantasy points, even though the game finishing in a tie was disappointing for both sides.
The potential of Newton scrambling often again this week probably means the second-best offensive weapon on the team will be tight end Greg Olsen. Despite playing at less than 100 percent last week due to an ankle injury, Olson was the most targeted receiver on the team as Newton looked his direction 11 times. He hauled in six of those targets for 62 yards and a touchdown, giving the veteran tight end a team-leading five touchdowns through six contests this year. When Newton runs out of running room, Olsen could be a killer safety valve against the Packers in Week 7.
Green Bay Packers
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers looked to be somewhat held in check against the Miami Dolphins last week. That is, until he led a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter with time running off of the clock to lead the Packers to a come-from-behind victory. Although his fantasy day started off slowly, A-Rod ended up throwing at least three touchdown passes for the fourth time this season and rewarded fantasy owners for their patience throughout the game. They should have no problem eclipsing the 300-yard passing mark against the Panthers, a team that's given up an average of 285 passing yards a game this season against quarterbacks who are not nearly as talented as Rodgers.
Perhaps one of the most surprising aspects of this season is the number of points the Carolina Panthers are giving up. That could mean a huge day for wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who is one of the best fantasy options in the game at his position no matter whom the Packers are facing. He's currently on a hot streak that's seen him score four times in the last three weeks, and judging by the fact that the Panthers have given up at least 30 points in each of the last three weeks, fantasy owners shouldn't be surprised if Nelson finds himself in the end zone once again in Week 7.
