Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) hopes to be ready to play when the team takes on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Head coach Jim Caldwell said on Monday that he'll strongly consider benching Johnson against the Vikings.
Calvin Johnson hopes to play Sunday; fantasy status in doubt
While the Lions’ star isn’t ruling out playing this week and sounds positive, his status is up in the air. We break down the fantasy implications.

Fantasy Impact: In recent years, no receiver in the NFL has been as productive as Megatron. He’s big, he’s fast and he’s tough. That toughness displays itself in the fact that he’s played the last two games with an injury that would probably sideline most guys.
However, Johnson has largely been used as a decoy in those two games and managed a grand total of only three catches for 19 yards in those contests.
Although he seems upbeat about the prospect of playing in Week 6, fantasy owners are advised to monitor updates on his status before jumping to conclusions. If he can't go, teammate Golden Tate would be the default No. 1 receiver in the offense, and Jeremy Ross would gain an uptick in value too.
