The Week 2 matchup between the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers features two conference rivals who are both looking to win their divisions. This game could easily have wildcard implications as both teams are in strong divisions.
Fantasy football projections Week 2: Lions-Panthers featuring Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Cam Newton, Kelvin Benjamin
We break down the Week 2 fantasy matchup between the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers.

Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions will look to keep the momentum going after torching the New York Giants in Week 1 to the tune of 35 points. Quarterback Matthew Stafford made a convincing argument why he should be considered a QB1. He had a monster Week 1 performance, going 22-32 for 346 yards and two touchdowns and adding another score on the ground. Neither of Detroit's running backs turned any heads, with Joique Bell receiving six more carries than Reggie Bush, though the former did manage to find the end zone once.
Calvin Johnson turned in another stat-stuffing line of seven catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns, and continues to hold down the prestigious title as fantasy football's number one receiver. Newly acquired receiver Golden Tate had an encouraging debut, catching six balls for 93 yards. Tate is in a prime position to take advantage of Johnson's double-teams and showed that he's up to the task.
Rookie first-round pick Eric Ebron offers the most long-term upside of the Detroit tight ends, but couldn't make his first catch last week. None of their tight ends caught more than one pass and this appears to be a fantasy situation to avoid until Ebron settles in and sees a healthy number of targets.
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers managed to escape Week 1 with a win despite having Derek Anderson under center. Despite the fact that Anderson played better than expected, the team will have Cam Newton back, and will understandably turn to their star. Although his receiving corps leaves much to be desired, Newton will have some solid options to target in reliable tight end Greg Olsen and rookie first-round wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin. Olsen turned in a stellar game in Week 1 with eight catches for 83 yards and a touchdown, and remains a low-end TE1. Benjamin opened some eyes in his debut, hauling in six passes for 92 yards and a 26-yard touchdown.
If you have to start a rookie receiver, Benjamin is your guy. Running back DeAngelo Williams ran effectively on 14 carries but couldn't find the end zone, and is highly questionable to play this week. His absence would give Jonathan Stewart a marginal boost in value, but Stewart ran for only 20 yards on nine carries and Mike Tolbert figures to be more heavily involved as well. Neither are worth more than a flex play.
