Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Patriots vs. Vikings featuring Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Shane Vereen and Cordarrelle Patterson
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings.

New England Patriots
Quarterback Tom Brady has a variety of weapons to spread the ball around, but his Week 1 result left fantasy owners with more to be desired. Brady passed for just under 250 yards with only one touchdown. Running back Shane Vereen made the most noise with 71 total yards and a rushing touchdown. Stevan Ridley saw one more carry than Vereen with eight but only managed 21 yards from them. Although he held onto the ball (a well-documented problem of his), there has been talk of Vereen seeing more goal line work. This would boost his value, which is already solid in PPR leagues.
Julian Edelman and his six catches for 95 yards was the only wideout to top 40 yards receiving. His PPR value stands for now but that may change with Aaron Dobson set to make his return. Tight end Rob Gronkowski made his much-awaited return and gave fantasy owners enough on limited snaps, catching four passes for 40 yards and a touchdown. Gronkowski's snap count should gradually increase and he remains an elite TE1.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are certain to deviate from their usual game plan, which typically revolves around running back Adrian Peterson. He is inactive, which leaves Matt Asiata as the new starter. Quarterback Matt Cassel is a capable game manager but he's was a low-end QB2 with a potent running game. With Asiata in the mix, owners should continue to have low fantasy expectations. Asiata has served as a capable backup for the last two years and offers RB2 value as long as he remains the workhorse. Rookie Jerick McKinnon is a name to keep an eye on. He's a freak athlete who can easily siphon carries from Asiata.
Wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson flashed his elite play-making ability in Week 1, catching three balls for 26 yards and rushing three times for 102 yards, including an explosive 67-yard dash. Patterson is only scratching the surface of his potential and should be started as a WR2. Tight end Kyle Rudolph remains a mid-range TE1. He only caught two passes for 16 yards but one of them was for a touchdown.
