Fantasy football projections, Week 5: Seahawks-Bengals featuring Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch and Andy Dalton
We break down the Week 5 matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Seattle Seahawks
Russell Wilson would have put up some solid fantasy numbers for his owners last week if not for the fact he fumbled the ball twice against the Detroit Lions. Those fumbles aside, he did toss for a season-high 287 yards, rush for 40 yards and throw a touchdown pass. Going up against the undefeated Bengals on Sunday there is no question Wilson will need to be better. But as long as he can hold onto the rock, which is usually not a problem, the Seahawks could hand the Bengals their first loss of the season.
Wilson won’t have to worry about carrying the ball as much this week anyway thanks to the return of running back Marshawn Lynch. Although it still hasn’t been 100-percent confirmed that Lynch will be ready in time, coach Pete Carroll recently commented that he’s looking good. Lynch hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown to this point in the season, but as long as he’s able to practice leading up to game day, he’ll be an automatic starter against the Bengals.
Cincinnati Bengals
Given that Cincinnati’s backfield has seen Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill clearly involved in a time-share situation, the best bang for the buck of fantasy owners when it comes to the Bengals’ offense is wide receiver A.J. Green. After amassing just 12 targets in the first two games of the season combined, Green has seen that number nearly double in the last two weeks. He nabbed 17 of 23 targets for 309 yards and two touchdowns. He’ll undoubtedly have the pleasure of going up against Richard Sherman on Sunday, but with the amount of looks he gets, Green will continue to produce, although a 200-yard receiving game is highly unlikely.
Whatever Green manages to put together on Sunday will come via the passes of quarterback Andy Dalton. He’s averaged more than 350 yards passing per game over the last two weeks and has thrown nine touchdowns this season compared to just one interception. He’s been both efficient and spectacular when called upon this season. The Seahawks undoubtedly represent a tough matchup this week, but Dalton is a big reason for the Bengals’ success going into the second quarter of the season.
