Fantasy football projections, Week 4: Giants-Bills featuring Odell Beckham Jr., Charles Clay and Sammy Watkins
We break down the Week 4 matchup between the New York Giants and the Buffalo Bills.
New York Giants
Make no bones about it, the Buffalo Bills boast a superb defense. And yet, only two teams have given up more points to fantasy wide receivers than Rex Ryan’s crew. That’s good news for wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. who appears to be rounding into form. He’s found the end zone in back-to-back games and has seven catches in each of those contests. Teammate Victor Cruz is slowly making his way back to the lineup, but isn’t quite ready yet and Rueben Randle isn’t exactly a Pro Bowl-caliber pass catcher. For those reasons Beckham will find himself at the top of the fantasy rankings again this week.
His production as always will rely on quarterback Eli Manning. Manning too could be in for a big day against the Bills who have given up an average of 326 passing yards per game to quarterbacks this year. Manning did everything he needed to do against Washington last week, and while Buffalo is a much stiffer opponent, the younger Manning brother should be steady for fantasy owners.
Buffalo Bills
Buffalo walked into the Miami Dolphins’ home Stadium last week and absolutely embarrassed them. Tight end Charles Clay had himself a good day. It started with three catches and a touchdown on the team’s very first drive of the contest. He had just two more catches the rest of the game, but on the bright side, Clay has now found the end zone in two straight weeks. He’ll be an important safety valve for quarterback Tyrod Taylor once again this week and might have found himself on a few more fantasy teams in deeper leagues because of his recent play.
Clay could be extra busy on Sunday if wide receiver Sammy Watkins is held out with a calf injury. As of now it’s expected that Watkins will play. Just how effective he will be if he goes remains to be seen. That’s not so much because of injury, but more so because of Watkins’ poor production numbers so far this season. He has just seven catches for 99 yards and a touchdown through three weeks. That’s normally a total you would expect to see next to his name after one game. The Giants have been fairly generous to wide receivers this year, so hopefully Week 4 is the opportunity for Watkins to bust out that his fantasy owners have been waiting for.
