Fantasy football projections, Week 4: Jets-Dolphins featuring Brandon Marshall, Ryan Tannehill and Rishard Matthews
We break down the Week 4 matchup between the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins.
New York Jets
While the Jets did attempt to mount a comeback against the Philadelphia Eagles last week, the truth is the game seemed to be over before it began. Fantasy owners who need proof of that can just look at wide receiver Brandon Marshall. He put together a fantastic day for his owners no doubt, but at the same time made one of the most boneheaded plays in NFL history, throwing a lateral directly into the hands of a Philadelphia Eagles player that his teammates weren’t expecting. Still, Marshall has a touchdown in every game this season, which is making fantasy owners who took a chance on the aging star very happy.
One thing not making the Jets very happy is the team’s running game. Bilal Powell ran for just 3.1 yards per carry on 10 attempts against the Eagles. He saved his fantasy day in PPR leagues by catching seven passes, but Powell will need to be better against the Dolphins. And that’s if Chris Ivory is forced to sit out another week with a quad injury, which likely won’t be known until closer to game time.
Miami Dolphins
Coming into this season, Jarvis Landry was the most popular Dolphins wide receiver in fantasy leagues, but lately it seems that teammate Rishard Matthews has emerged as the go-to guy. Matthews has 12 catches for 228 yards and two touchdowns in the last two weeks combined. He’s clearly found his game albeit in two losing efforts. Sunday’s match up against the Jets represents a tough task, but it’s clear that quarterback Ryan Tannehill trusts Matthews as evidenced by the fact he’s targeted the receiver 17 times in the last two weeks.
Speaking of Tannehill. he’s managed to put up some huge numbers lately, but last week it was mostly because he was getting blown out by the Buffalo Bills and had to try to mount a comeback. He attempted 49 passes and unfortunately only completed 26 of them. His 297 yards and two touchdowns on the day wouldn’t have been so bad if not for the three interceptions that went along with all of that. Tannehill will need to be way more efficient against a Jets team that managed to force 10 turnovers after the first two weeks of the season and nearly came back to beat the Eagles last week.
