Fantasy football projections, Week 4: Chiefs-Bengals featuring Jamaal Charles, A.J. Green and Tyler Eifert
We break down the Week 4 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs got blown out of the water on Monday Night Football in Green Bay last week. If the team is going to rebound in Kansas City, running back Jamaal Charles is going to have to continue his solid play. Charles ran for just 49 yards last week, but that’s mostly because the Chiefs spent nearly the entire game playing from behind. The good news for his fantasy owners is that Charles did manage to find the end zone on three different occasions. He’s a premier rusher in the NFL and should be able to put up solid numbers once again in Week 4.
Hopefully wide receiver Jeremy Maclin can give the Bengals’ defense reason to focus on the passing game and open up some holes for Charles in the process. Maclin finally scored his first touchdown as a Chief last week, and finished with a total stat line of eight catches for 141 yards to go with that score. It’s obvious that moving over to Kansas City from Philadelphia is going to affect his numbers the season. Fantasy owners can only hope that the team can get him double-digit targets consistently going forward.
Cincinnati Bengals
Last week’s win over the Baltimore Ravens was quite a roller coaster ride for the Bengals. They held the lead early and seemed to be running away with the game until the Ravens managed to come back and make things interesting. Thankfully, wide receiver A.J. Green was around to save the day. He finished with 10 catches for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He’s one of the few receivers in the league to have surpassed the 200-yard mark in a game on more than one occasion and his output last Sunday was twice what he had posted in the previous two games combined. Green will face a defense that gave up five touchdowns to the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers last week and allowed Randall Cobb to score three times.
Green will be aided by teammate Tyler Eifert in the passing game ... hopefully. Eifert failed to catch a pass on three targets last week after exploding onto the 2015 fantasy scene with two big games to start the year. Kansas City plays tight ends pretty well, but it’s not as if Eifert won’t get his share of looks going forward. While fantasy owners may be a little bit skeptical of him now given the goose egg he just put up, Eifert should be good for at least five catches on Sunday and the yardage and possible touchdowns that come with those grabs.
