There's a saying that the backup quarterback is the most popular man on the team, but that isn't the case in San Francisco, even with starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick languishing.
Colin Kaepernick won’t be benched by 49ers, per report, but should be in fantasy leagues
The 49ers quarterback continues to struggle after a promising start to the season. We break down the fantasy implications.

That may have something to do with Blaine Gabbert having experienced his own struggles throughout his career, which can certainly be part of the reason San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula said it had never crossed his mind to bench Kaepernick, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez.
Via ESPN:
“Won’t even go into that discussion,” coach Jim Tomsula said following the 49ers’ 17-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, which dropped them to 1-3.
“It’s not on my mind.”
Fantasy impact: It’s looking like it will be a long season for the 49ers in what is shaping up to be a formidable NFC West, but Kaepernick’s fantasy owners at least don’t have as much stock invested in him. Because he was likely a late-round pick, and because quarterback is such a deep position, fantasy owners should have no issues benching him amid difficult matchups.
Kaepernick’s dual-threat ability will keep him on the QB2 radar, but it will be difficult to justify starting him in standard formatted leagues.
