Fantasy football projections, Week 8: Titans-Texans featuring Zach Mettenberger, Alfred Blue and DeAndre Hopkins
We break down the Week 8 matchup between the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans.
Tennessee Titans
Backup quarterback Zach Mettenberger didn’t exactly impress while filling in against the Atlanta Falcons last week for Marcus Mariota. While Mariota’s knee injury is still a concern going into Week 8, Mettenberger will have to focus on limiting turnovers in practice if he hopes to give his team a chance to win against the Houston Texans ... in the event he draws the start, of course. No matter which quarterback is under center on Sunday, they’ll both have the peace of mind of knowing that they are facing a defense that gives up tons of fantasy points to passers.
That being the case, Titans quarterbacks could help put together solid numbers for tight end Delanie Walker. Walker won’t wow anybody with loads of touchdowns or high yardage totals, but he’s sure to see a lot of targets on a team that plays from behind often and is usually forced to go for the conservative option early. Being a safety valve is good for Walker’s fantasy value this week, especially in PPR leagues.
Houston Texans
And down goes Arian Foster ... again! Foster suffered a season-ending injury last week against the Miami Dolphins. A torn Achilles to be exact. Sitting out the second half of the year on the sidelines means that Alfred Blue and Chris Polk will get a shot at manning the workload. Blue should get more carries early on, as he’s the more seasoned rusher on the team. That said, fantasy owners may not exactly be rushing to add either one until they prove they can produce on a consistent basis.
That pretty much leaves quarterback Brian Hoyer to throw the ball down the field to his favorite target, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. As bad as the Texans have been as a team this year, Hopkins has been incredibly good. Out of this world good. All he does is catch passes and score touchdowns. He’s got 58 catches and five scores on the season to go with 776 yards. He leads the NFL in that last category and there’s no reason he shouldn’t keep things rolling against Tennessee on Sunday.
