Fantasy football projections, Week 8: Seahawks-Cowboys featuring Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch and Darren McFadden
We break down the Week 8 matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Dallas Cowboys.
Seattle Seahawks
While certainly one of the NFL’s most gifted talents, it may be time for fantasy owners to cut ties with quarterback Russell Wilson. He just isn’t performing nearly as well as many of the league’s top passers. Seattle isn’t exactly known for its passing game in the first place. The team has always had a run-first philosophy. That being said, the Cowboys don’t have Tony Romo back yet and running back Joseph Randle will be out. That means the Seahawks should get plenty of opportunities to wear away the opposing defense this week. Wilson’s legs could be a huge asset in that regard.
The other player whose legs will make a difference in the game is running back Marshawn Lynch. Lynch hadn’t scored all year until Week 6, but he has now scored in each of the last two games. Last week’s performance against the San Francisco 49ers gave Lynch his first 100-yard rushing game of the season, believe it or not. Hopefully he’s worked his way through injury woes and is now back at full strength. Fantasy owners are hoping that’s the case as they continue to try to squeeze the most fantasy value possible out of a top 2015 fantasy draft pick.
Dallas Cowboys
Joseph Randle left last week’s game really early with a back injury and teammate Darren McFadden capitalized to the fullest. He carried the ball 29 times and ran for 152 yards and a touchdown against the New York Giants. While the team’s coaching staff is saying Christine Michael should be more involved going forward, it’s clear that it’s actually Run DMC who’s going to get the bulk of the workload as long as Randle is out. That will definitely be the case this week. Fantasy owners may get giddy and start McFadden based on last week’s big game, but let’s not kid ourselves, the Seahawks are a tough test on the ground.
What’s more exciting for the Cowboys is that wide receiver Dez Bryant appears to have recovered from his early-season foot injury. He is expected to play against Seattle. Bryant is going to be the surefire No. 1 target in Dallas’ passing game as he has been for most of his career. Quarterback Tony Romo isn’t back yet, but Bryant will still be in fantasy lineups everywhere and rightfully so. Watching him go up against Richard Sherman is always entertaining. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top this time.
