UPDATE (1:27 p.m. ET): According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ed Bouchard, Ben Roethlisberger plans on practicing Thursday. No conclusion can be made about his availability for Sunday, but Roethlisberger is trending in the right direction.
Ben Roethlisberger ‘ahead of schedule,’ per report, could be in fantasy lineups sooner than expected
Despite being carted to the locker room in Week 9, Ben Roethlisberger could return to the lineup sooner than anticipated. We break down the fantasy implications.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger shed his walking boot and is ahead of schedule in rehabilitation, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Roethlisberger was carted off during Week 9's win over the Oakland Raiders late in the fourth quarter after suffering a sprained foot. The official prognosis was that it would take at least two weeks to recover, but there's a chance -- albeit a small one -- per Schefter's report, that he suits up Sunday.
Fantasy impact: “But it’s Roethlisberger” is the reasoning given by Schefter as to why he could suit up sooner than expected, and as absurd as it sounds, it’s possible that it’s the only reasoning needed. Roethlisberger has dealt with injuries time and again throughout his career and managed to play through them at a high level, but it would still be bold to assume he misses no time after being carted off from a game.
Fantasy owners should expect to see Landry Jones under center for Week 10, but injury reports should be monitored throughout the week. At the very least, Roethlisberger is well on his way to suiting up after the team's Week 11 bye. Upon his return, the fantasy values of the entire Steelers receiving corps will get a significant boost.
