Fantasy football projections, Week 10: Panthers-Titans featuring Cam Newton, Greg Olsen and Marcus Mariota
We break down the Week 10 matchup between the Carolina Panthers and the Tennessee Titans.
Carolina Panthers
From a fantasy perspective, it’s quite a surprise that the Panthers boast an unblemished record. They don’t really have a bona fide fantasy stud outside of quarterback Cam Newton. Newton needed to complete just 15 passes against the Green Bay Packers last week to total 297 passing yards and find himself three touchdowns. He also ran for a fourth. Although Tennessee does look like a tougher matchup now that ex-coach Ken Whisenhunt has been canned, the Titans don’t scare anybody defensively. Newton should continue to be a solid fantasy option this week.
The same goes for tight end Greg Olsen. He had a slow start to the season but has now found a touchdown in three of the last four games. He caught four of seven targets last week for 66 yards and a score. Tennessee has been friendly to fantasy tight ends this year, so Olsen might find himself doing a touchdown dance for the third week in a row. If he does, fantasy owners will be dancing too.
Tennessee Titans
In the two games the Titans have won this season, quarterback Marcus Mariota has looked unstoppable. In topping the New Orleans Saints last week, Mariota wasn’t sacked or even hit a single time in the game while throwing for 371 yards and four touchdown passes. His effort gave fantasy owners a huge boost, likely allowing them to reign victorious in head-to-head formats. Mariota and owners will need his hot play to continue against a tough Carolina defense this week. It’s unlikely he’ll do it, but in the NFL, you just never know what will happen from week to week.
Another likely contributor to the Titans offense this week is running back Antonio Andrews. Andrews was announced the team’s official workhorse prior to last week’s game and interim head coach Mike Mularkey pretty much held true to his word. Andrews saw 19 carries and rushed for 88 yards against the Saints last week and it’s clear that no other running back in Tennessee is going to challenge him for the time being. That bodes well for his overall outlook throughout the second half of the year. Andrews could be a late-season fantasy surprise.
