We break down the Week 10 matchup between the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Rams.
Chicago Bears
Quarterback Jay Cutler looked to be totally on point during the second half while leading the Bears to a comeback victory over the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football last week. The team trailed by nine points heading into the final quarter, but Cutler was able to do just enough to lead the team down the field. Heading to St. Louis this week should equate to lots of pressure and probably a few sacks for Cutler, but maybe he has enough in the tank to get the Bears rolling and back in the playoff picture with another win in The Show Me State.
A lot of his success last week was thanks to wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. Jeffery connected with Cutler many times in key situations, helping to keep drives alive and allowing the Bears to put up enough points on the board for the win. Jeffery’s stats in recent weeks put him in the conversation as one of the league’s hottest players right now. He’s caught a whopping 28 passes for 414 yards and two touchdowns in the last three games. It’s clear that the only thing stopping Jeffery from performing this season has been injuries. Now that he and Cutler are both healthy, the fantasy future is bright in Chicago.
St. Louis Rams
Although he failed to top 100 yards rushing for the first time in a month, running back Todd Gurley just keeps on rolling. He managed to find the end zone for the third week in a row in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday and saw 27 touches. It’s clear he’s the engine that drives the St. Louis offense. Gurley should have no trouble running all over the Bears this week. Nobody has been able to stop him so far.
Unfortunately for fantasy owners who happen to be Rams fans, there isn’t much to look at outside of the team’s super rookie. Tavon Austin is the team’s most targeted receiver and he can sometimes provide fantasy value depending on whether the passing game is on or off. Last week it was totally off. Austin was targeted seven times against the Vikings. While he did catch four passes for the third game in a row, his yardage total was embarrassingly low. How embarrassing, you ask? He averaged just 3.75 yards per catch. Ouch!
