Fantasy football advice, Week 10: Who to start/sit for Lions vs. Packers

Two teams look to break losing streaks. One of them seems more likely than the other.

Both the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions enter their Week 10 showdown on two-game losing streaks. Of course, the Packers' mini-skid comes after a 6-0 start, while the Lions' slide comes after their only win of the season, putting them at 1-7 for the season. The Packers have fallen into only a tie for first place in the NFC North, and so need a Sunday win to stay in the driver's seat for the division title.

The Lions will come into Sunday's game worrying about wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who is dealing with an ankle injury. He has been steadfast that he will play, though officially he'll be questionable for the game. On the Green Bay side, quasi-deposed running back Eddie Lacy is dealing with a groin injury. He's questionable for the game, but expected to play as James Starks' backup. Wide receiver James Jones, meanwhile, is probably despite a quad issue.

The Packers will host the Lions Sunday, with game time scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:

LIONS

Start ‘em: The only way Calvin Johnson isn’t a must-start is if he is an unlikely inactive because of injury. Odds are good he’ll play, and he should be in all lineups.

Start ‘em?: That one huge week Matthew Stafford had in Week 6 looks like an aberration; he had 33 fantasy points that week and is averaging 11.4 otherwise. He's a QB2 with apparently limited upside. ... The only Detroit running back who has looked productive of late is Joique Bell, but even he is only a risky flex play. ... If Johnson plays, there's a chance he's in his occasional decoy role. If so, that would make Golden Tate interesting, albeit very risky. ... Eric Ebron has 10-plus fantasy points in three of his six games this season. ... Matt Prater has only kicked for more than seven fantasy points once all season.

Sit ‘em: Behind Bell, Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick just haven't been that productive. Riddick has some upside in PPR leagues, and the team has said it will give Abdullah looks, but neither one looks that promising. ... The Lions' defense had a great Week 4, with 21 fantasy points. It has two points total since, and now draws the Packers.

PACKERS

Start ‘em: After a rough stretch of games, Aaron Rodgers got back on track in Week 9, with a huge performance. Even without that, he's Aaron Rodgers. You're starting him. ... Randall Cobb put it back together in Week 9 as well after a bad month-plus. He's a fantasy starter

Start ‘em?: You're probably using James Starks if you have him, now that he's the starter, but there's a chance this becomes almost a 50/50 role. ... There's still upside to Eddie Lacy, and if nothing else there's a good shot he'll get a goal-line look or two. ... Since Davante Adams returned from injury, he's been more heavily targeted than James Jones. With Adams, you're looking for quantity, while Jones is more of a quality (i.e. a random touchdown) play. ... You'd think a kicker for a Green Bay offense would be super-productive, but Mason Crosby just hasn't done a lot. ... After a hideous stretch (three straight games in the negative), the Packers' defense still has marginal upside against a Detroit team whose top weapon is banged up.

Sit ‘em: The Packers have a red-zone threat in Richard Rodgers, who has four touchdowns on the year, but he isn't even averaging 30 yards a game.

SUMMARY

Start in every league: Calvin Johnson, Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb
Start if you’re desperate: Matthew Stafford, Joique Bell, Golden Tate, Eric Ebron, Matt Prater, James Starks, Eddie Lacy, Davante Adams, James Jones, Mason Crosby, Green Bay defense
Bench: Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick, Detroit defense, Richard Rodgers
