Fantasy football advice, Week 11: Who to start/sit for Jets vs. Texans
Which quarterback situation is more complicated?
When the Houston Texans and New York Jets face off Sunday, the quarterbacks will be a guy who was out of the league a month ago against a guy who was on the operating table nine days ago. The quarterbacks are the prime storyline of the game.
After surgery on a thumb ligament last Friday, New York quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to return for Sunday and be fine. The team also has running back Bilal Powell and wide receivers Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall on the weekly injury report; Powell should return from several weeks missed to injury, and Decker and Marshall are perpetual injury report guys who rarely end up missing. They're fine. For Houston, quarterback Brian Hoyer will miss Sunday with a concussion. Running back Chris Polk and wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Nate Washington were all on the injury report as well, though all three should play.
Houston plays host to the Jets Sunday. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, and here’s a look at the game’s fantasy considerations:
JETS
Start ‘em: After some rough running numbers for a few weeks, Chris Ivory looked good again in Week 10. He's still a fine RB1. ... Neither Brandon Marshall nor Eric Decker has put up fewer than six fantasy points in a game all year. Decker hasn't gone below nine. ... The Jets' defense has been more underwhelming of late, but is still a starting unit, especially when facing a backup quarterback.
Start ‘em?: Take out the game in which he got hurt three weeks ago, and Ryan Fitzpatrick has had a really high floor all year, even if his ceiling isn’t special.
Sit ‘em: It looks like Kellen Davis has supplanted Jeff Cumberland as the team's No. 1 tight end. Neither one is a fantasy play. ... Randy Bullock replaced Nick Folk after Folk got hurt. There's a reason he was unemployed.
TEXANS
Start ‘em: Yes, he's been on the injury report, and he's facing Darrelle Revis, and he's got a backup quarterback. I don't care. Use DeAndre Hopkins.
Start ‘em?: There's a floor of zero points to Alfred Blue, but at least he's a guy getting the majority of carries. Risk/reward.
Sit ‘em: With Brian Hoyer hurt and Ryan Mallett long gone, T.J. Yates is starting at quarterback this week. That's not exciting. ... The problem with Cecil Shorts III and Nate Washington is that they are both there, and you don't know which might produce over the other, if at all. ... There's no tight end worth fantasy looks in Houston, whether it's Garrett Graham or C.J. Fiedorowicz. ... Nick Novak hasn't done much since becoming the Houston kicker. ... The Texans' defense has been better of late (13-plus in three of its last four games), but it's been a disappointing season overall.
