Fantasy football advice, Week 11: Who to start/sit for Buccaneers vs. Eagles
Is it fair that these teams have the same record but such different playoff chances?
Divisions are either the best or the dumbest thing about sports. I say that because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles are both 4-5, though because of divisions, the Buccaneers are five games out of first in the NFC South, while the Eagles are only a half-game behind the NFC East-leading New York Giants. Is it fair that the Eagles are contenders while the Buccaneers are also-rans? No. But is it fun? Yep. The two play each other Sunday, with Tampa Bay looking to play spoiler.
The Buccaneers appear likely to play without tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins for yet another week Sunday. Wide receiver Vincent Jackson is shaping up to be a game-time decision. On the Eagles' side, quarterback Sam Bradford and running back Ryan Mathews are both out for Sunday, while wide receiver Josh Huff is expected to play through his back issues.
Philadelphia will host the Buccaneers Sunday, with a 1 p.m. ET scheduled kickoff. Here’s a look at the fantasy names worth thinking about:
BUCCANEERS
Start ‘em: The midseason heights of Doug Martin might have been a bit fluky, but he's still a justifiable RB2. ... The drops are frustrating, but with the rest of the team's pass-catchers hurt and a million targets going his way, Mike Evans is still a must-start.
Start ‘em?: Week 10 was Connor Barth's first game of fewer than 10 fantasy points since re-joining Tampa Bay. ... The Buccaneers' defense is good-not-great, but you always want to take a longer look at a defense facing a backup quarterback.
Sit ‘em: You want your quarterback to at least have a chance at a huge game, and Jameis Winston with no 20-point fantasy days all season doesn't appear to have that chance. ... Charles Sims had a hot streak early on, but he hasn't had more than five fantasy points in any of his last four games. ... Even if Vincent Jackson and/or Austin Seferian-Jenkins make it back for Sunday, you can't use them. Too many questions, too much rust.
EAGLES
Start ‘em: With Ryan Mathews out and a backup quarterback at the helm, DeMarco Murray appears likely to set a season-high in touches. He's near the elite running backs. ... The last five games, the Eagles' defense has averaged 11.2 fantasy points a game.
Start ‘em?: With Sam Bradford out, Mark Sanchez takes the starting job again in Philadelphia. He had some big moments in the role last season, but he's also turnover-prone. This is super high-risk, high-reward. ... Jordan Matthews connected well with Sanchez last year and has had his moments this year as well, but there's been no consistency. ... The Eagles give more kicker opportunities to their guys than anyone in recent years. Caleb Sturgis isn't great, but he's had quantity.
Sit ‘em: The team just hasn't really utilized Darren Sproles since Week 3. ... Good luck finding a wide receiver to trust behind Matthews. Josh Huff, Nelson Agholor, Riley Cooper, Miles Austin — they're all the same. And tight ends Zach Ertz and Brent Celek are right in that group as well.
