The Indianapolis Colts entered the season as theoretical contenders for the AFC title, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were seen as a building team for whom everything would have to go right for them to contend. Through 11 weeks, though, the two teams are both 5-5. By virtue of playing in a rough division, the Colts are in better shape for a possible playoff berth, but when the two teams face off Sunday, the winner will have the better record of the two.
Fantasy football advice, Week 12: Who to start/sit for Buccaneers vs. Colts
Can Indianapolis stay out in front in the AFC South?
For what feels like the millionth week in a row, Tampa Bay tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins spent the week seemingly moving toward returning to action, only for the week to end with him again a scratch. Meanwhile, the Colts will again be without quarterback Andrew Luck, while running back Frank Gore is expected to play despite injuries suffered in Week 11.
The Buccaneers travel to Indianapolis for Sunday’s game, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
BUCCANEERS
Start ‘em: After three straight games of looking ordinary, Doug Martin was a monster in Week 11. It keeps him solidly in must-start territory, though he needs to show more consistency. ... Mike Evans thrived while he was the team's only real pass-catching weapon. Even as guys get healthy, he's likely to continue to produce. ... Connor Barth has been a fantasy monster since re-joining Tampa Bay.
Start ‘em?: We finally saw some upside in Jameis Winston's game last week. It was his first game of 20-plus fantasy points, and he blew past the threshold, putting up 29 in Week 11. It shows he has the huge game in his repertoire, though falling back to his regular numbers in Week 12 would be a letdown. ... In his first game in a month, Vincent Jackson was strong in Week 11. He still has top-flight upside. ... The Buccaneers' defense has been strong of late, though the Indianapolis offense, even without Andrew Luck, is still formidable.
Sit ‘em: As long as Martin is the team's top running back, Charles Sims is only a super-deep flex play who needs a touchdown to be really helpful. Best to avoid him. ... As long as Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been hurt, neither Brandon Myers nor Cameron Brate has had much to offer.
COLTS
Start ‘em: The season started awfully for Adam Vinatieri, but since Week 2, he's averaged almost nine fantasy points a game, and that warranted starting consideration.
Start ‘em: Say what you want, but Matt Hasselbeck has put up 43 fantasy points in three starts. He's never going to win you a week, but he's got a high floor, has strong weapons and draws a weak opponent. You could do worse. ... Frank Gore saw some of his touches go elsewhere while he was banged up last week, with success. The chance that continues makes him more of a flex option than a fantasy starter. ... There's been almost no consistency from the Indianapolis receiving corps. T.Y. Hilton is the most talented of the bunch, though Donte Moncrief has had more 2015 games of double-digit fantasy points. If you're starting one, it's Hilton over Moncrief, though both have a strong argument for flex considerations. ... Coby Fleener has produced better with Hasselbeck at quarterback. He's still a bit of a dice-throw, but the targets are there. ... The Colts' defense has improved a lot of late.
Sit ‘em: Week 11 was the first big game of the season for Ahmad Bradshaw, though it was largely on the back of finding the end zone -- he still only had 52 yards from scrimmage. That said, his success in 2014 was largely touchdown-based, as well. This is who he's been in Indianapolis. He's not ready for fantasy lineups yet, but he warrants monitoring. ... Andre Johnson doesn't seem to have week-to-week production in his game anymore. He's had two decent games, but followed them both up with virtual goose eggs. ... From a fantasy perspective, it's been a wasted season for Dwayne Allen.
