New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to be the team’s starter when the Jets take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, according to beat writer Rich Cimini. Fitzpatrick suffered an injury in his non-throwing hand in last week’s contest against the Oakland Raiders.
Ryan Fitzpatrick will start on Sunday, fantasy value nearly impossible to gauge at the moment
New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to play with torn ligaments in his non-throwing hand. We break down the fantasy implications.
Fantasy impact: After being signed to a juicy long-term contract by the Buffalo Bills a few years ago, there were a lot of expectations placed on Fitzpatrick. He didn’t live up to them and bounced around to a few teams before finding a home with the New York Jets.
This year he’s been really impressive and in deeper leagues has earned the right to be picked up off the waiver wire. Fitzpatrick has been able to consistently connect with wide receiver Brandon Marshall and ultimately do enough to lead the team to victories. That said, with a 4-3 record in the always-tough AFC East, the time to get back on the winning track is now. Geno Smith isn’t the guy to do that for the Jets.
Given that Fitzpatrick’s injury is to his non-throwing hand, fantasy owners can go ahead and start him, but it’s likely that Fitzpatrick will rely on the running game and not throw as much considering tearing ligaments in any part of your body is usually pretty serious.
