Fantasy football projections, Week 9: Jaguars-Jets featuring Allen Robinson, Brandon Marshall

We break down the Week 9 matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets.

The Week 9 matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets features two teams that offer their share of surprise fantasy standouts. We’ve got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the worst teams in the NFL for years now, but for once, their future looks bright. Wide receiver Allen Robinson has been downright dangerous the last three weeks. He has 19 catches for 256 yards and four touchdowns over that span. He’s been targeted at least nine times in every game since after Week 1, so fantasy owners can rest assured that the volume is going to be there the rest of the way. Even against a tough Jets defense, Robinson will get his share of looks.

Teammate Allen Hurns has also come into his own. Although his yardage totals and reception numbers don’t exactly match that of Robinson’s, Hurns has scored a touchdown in every game dating back to Week 3. That’s pretty impressive considering he’s only caught two passes in three of the last five contests. Scoring in every game isn’t exactly sustainable for the long-term, but maybe quarterback Blake Bortles will get better at finding him. Hurns still gets targeted regularly and that won’t change against the Jets.

New York Jets

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick tore ligaments in his non-throwing had last week against the Oakland Raiders. It looks like he really wants to play going forward but nobody knows how effective he will be. That could be trouble for wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who has been as good as he has ever been in a New York Jets uniform. Even with Geno Smith at quarterback for most of the game last week, Marshall caught nine passes for 108 yards, putting together his fifth 100-yard game of the season. Marshall will be busy no matter who starts against the Jags.

Teammate Eric Decker may experience the biggest drop in his fantasy value if Smith and not Fitzpatrick starts on Sunday. Decker has yet to cross the 100-yard plateau this year. The good news is he has scored a touchdown in all but one of the six games he’s played this season and scoring against the Jaguars shouldn’t be a problem. He may not be a good option outside of leagues that reward receptions, but maybe this week is an exception to that rule.
