Fantasy football projections, Week 9: Giants-Buccaneers featuring Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr. and Doug Martin
We break down the Week 9 matchup between the New York Giants and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
New York Giants
Eli Manning's six touchdown passes may not have been enough to beat the New Orleans Saints last week, but fantasy owners probably don't care. The bottom line is he put up a ton of fantasy points. Of course, nobody can predict when a player is going to be involved in a game that sees nearly 100 points up on the board, but that doesn't mean Manning can't post some big numbers against the Buccaneers this week. Only two teams have conceded more fantasy points to quarterbacks than Tampa Bay this year.
That’s good news for Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham caught three of Manning’s six touchdowns last week and finished with eight catches for 130 yards. Most of that damage was done in the first half of the game. If Beckham can string together two of those halves against the Buccaneers, he may not score three times, but he should still put up big numbers. Fantasy owners won’t have a problem with that.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After rushing for more than 100 yards in three straight games, running back Doug Martin finally saw his numbers dip a little bit against the Atlanta Falcons last week. He rushed for just 71 yards despite getting 23 carries. It'll be interesting to see if he can bounce back against the Giants and prove that the three weeks of solid play weren't a fluke. The Giants are pretty decent against running backs this year, so it won't be easy, but it's also not totally out of the question given that he's had a decent year.
Fantasy owners of wide receiver Mike Evans could also use a bounce-back performance. He caught just three passes for 48 yards last week and this week, he faces the Giants defense that isn't shy about letting wide receivers collect their fair share of fantasy points. Evans' effectiveness will go up and down alongside the play of quarterback Jameis Winston, but such is the way of life on a rebuilding team.
