Fantasy football advice, Week 14: Who to start/sit for Colts vs. Jaguars
Can Jacksonville close the gap in the AFC South?
Somehow, the 4-8 Jacksonville Jaguars still have some level of hope in the AFC South, as the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans are puttering around at 6-6 in first. If the Jaguars can beat the Colts Sunday, and the Texans can lose to the Patriots, Jacksonville will be only a game out of first place with three games to play. A bad division means no one is truly eliminated.
The Colts will once again be without quarterback Andrew Luck Sunday, but will have quarterback Matt Hasselbeck ready to play despite the injuries he suffered last week. On the Jacksonville side, the Jaguars should get wide receiver Allen Hurns back after he missed Week 13; he's been banged up almost all season, but the wide receiver has only missed the one game.
The Jaguars play host to the Colts in Sunday’s intra-divisional matchup. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
COLTS
Start ‘em: I'll write off Adam Vinatieri's bad Week 13, after he had been so productive before that. He's still a starter.
Start ‘em?: You're probably using Frank Gore if you have him, though he hasn't exactly been overwhelming this year, never putting back-to-back double-digit fantasy games together. ... T.Y. Hilton has three or fewer fantasy points in three of his last five games. ... The Colts' defense is fairly meh, but Jacksonville is usually good for a turnover or two.
Sit ‘em: The other shoe seemed to drop for Matt Hasselbeck last week, reminding us all that he's a 40-year-old who hadn't started a game in three years. It's a very nice matchup, but considering he's also injured, best to avoid him here. ... Under Hasselbeck, the Colts' offense just isn't scary; avoid Donte Moncrief, Andre Johnson and Coby Fleener.
JAGUARS
Start ‘em: After a big Week 13, and eight straight games with at least six fantasy points, T.J. Yeldon has earned an every-week starting role. ... Allen Robinson has shot up the wide receiver rankings; he's put up double-digit fantasy points in eight straight games and is tied for fourth in wide-receiver scoring this year. ... Julius Thomas appears to finally be getting things back on track, with 10.7 fantasy points per game in his last three. ... Jason Myers wasn't very needed last week, but had a string of four straight games of 12-plus fantasy points before that.
Start ‘em?: You like the matchup for Blake Bortles, and he certainly has great upside, but his propensity for interceptions scares me.
Sit ‘em: Not man wide receivers have the week-to-week upside of Allen Hurns, but the injuries appear to be catching up with him; his last three weeks have been one point, four points and an injury. I want to see him look healthy before I use him. ... The Jaguars’ defense is no great shakes, and even at a deteriorated level, Indianapolis has a tough offense.
