Fantasy football advice, Week 14: Who to start/sit for Chargers vs. Chiefs
Kansas City looks to stay hot down the stretch.
The San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs played each other three weeks ago, with the Chiefs rolling to an incredibly easy 33-3 win. They play each other again Sunday, with the Chargers hoping something can go right for them this time around, and the Chiefs hoping to extend a six-game winning streak.
The Chargers continue to be ravaged by injuries. Wide receivers Dontrelle Inman and Stevie Johnson will miss Sunday. The team will have quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Ladarius Green, though, despite their injuries. For the Chiefs, tight end Travis Kelce is on the injury report for what feels like the hundredth week in a row, but he's not going to miss any time.
The Chiefs host the Chargers Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
CHARGERS
Start ‘em?: The floor for Philip Rivers just gets lower and lower, but he showed just two weeks ago that, even with his weapons lacking, he has upside as well. Look for a better option, but he has potential in a pinch. ... With so many wide receivers out, Danny Woodhead should see plenty of targets Sunday, but his production has really tanked of late. ... The Chiefs are the best team in the league against tight ends; Antonio Gates was held to one catch and six yards last time these two played. The dearth of pass-catchers for the Chargers right now means Gates might get a shot, but he's a scary option.
Sit ‘em: The fumbles have cratered whatever small value Melvin Gordon had. He might get only sparing carries Sunday. ... With Stevie Johnson and Dontrelle Inman out, the Chargers' top two receivers will likely be Malcom Floyd and Javontee Herndon, which does not inspire fantasy confidence. ... Ladarius Green has four fantasy points combined in the last four games he's played. ... Josh Lambo has fallen off of late. He's only a middling fantasy option. ... The Chargers' defense is the only one in the league that hasn't reached double-digit fantasy points in a game all season.
CHIEFS
Start ‘em: The Chiefs have gone back to looking heavily at Jeremy Maclin, who has 41 fantasy points in his last two. ... Travis Kelce has four or fewer fantasy points in three of his last four games, but with so little upside among tight ends, he still needs to be started. ... Cairo Santos was held to two fantasy points last week, but that came on the heels of a long stretch of production. ... The Chiefs' defense has been strong of late, and gets a reeling San Diego offense.
Start ‘em?: In Week 2, Alex Smith had four fantasy points. He's had at least 13 in all the rest of the games he played this season, including 21 and 24 in his last two. He's a strong QB2. ... If you have to pick between Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West, pick Ware, because he'll likely get more goal-line looks, but both are decent-upside flex options.
Sit ‘em: It's actually been a reasonable season for Albert Wilson, considering he's no better than the fourth or fifth option in the Kansas City offense, but that certainly doesn't make him a fantasy option.
