Fantasy football advice, Week 14: Who to start/sit for Cowboys vs. Packers
Two late wins last week have these two teams looking suddenly optimistic.
Suddenly, after a win in an awful game a week ago, the Dallas Cowboys, at 4-8, are only a game out of the playoffs in a woeful NFC East. The Green Bay Packers, meanwhile, are 8-4 and a half-game up on the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North. The winner of Sunday's game between the two could be set up for a playoff run, while the loser will have a lot of work to do.
The Cowboys will of course be without quarterback Tony Romo Sunday, but they will have wide receiver Dez Bryant ready to go, despite his appearance on the injury report. The Packers, meanwhile, should have their full complement of fantasy options ready to go for the game.
Green Bay plays host Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
COWBOYS
Start ‘em: Considering the general futility of the offense around him and his fumbles last week, Darren McFadden's stock is dropping, but he's still going to get enough touches to be a fine starting running back. ... Dan Bailey has managed to keep his kicking numbers high amid the awfulness of the Dallas offense.
Sit ‘em: In six games this season, Matt Cassel has recorded single-digit fantasy points five times. That's not so good. ... I just don't know how you can use Dez Bryant in fantasy at this point (to say nothing of Terrance Williams); the passing game is just so bad. ... Jason Witten can be safely dropped in all leagues. ... The Cowboys' defense has improved a bit of late, but you have to figure the Green Bay offense will get things going in the right direction.
PACKERS
Start ‘em: You don't really have any recourse but to use Aaron Rodgers in fantasy, even though he's struggled of late. He'll be fine.
Start ‘em?: The Green Bay running game is frustrating. You're probably using Eddie Lacy as a risky RB2, while James Starks is more of a flex play, but the whole situation keeps turning over with the Packers, so tread lightly. ... Randall Cobb has been frustrating based on expectations, but he's also averaged 8.6 fantasy points a game in his last five. He's a high-floor flex. ... Richard Rodgers had a monster Week 13. He's not been able to string big games together, but the targets have been there lately. ... The Packers' defense hasn't been great this season, but against the woeful Dallas offense there's some potential.
Sit ‘em: You can't count on anything out of Davante Adams or James Jones at this point; their values are way down. ... Mason Crosby has been a really underwhelming kicker this year.

Start in every league: Darren McFadden, Dan Bailey, Aaron Rodgers
Start if you’re desperate: Eddie Lacy, James Starks, Randall Cobb, Richard Rodgers, Green Bay defense
