Three AFC teams are 8-5 right now, battling for the two AFC Wild Card berths. Right now the Kansas City Chiefs hold the tiebreaker over the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Jets win the tiebreaker over the Steelers. The middle-child Jets play Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys, and they can ill-afford a loss if they want their playoff hopes to stay alive.
Fantasy football advice, Week 15: Who to start/sit for Jets vs. Cowboys on Saturday night
The season’s first Saturday game features a New York team trying to hold on tightly to a playoff spot.
Yet again, the Jets have quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker on the weekly injury report, but all three should be fine to play. For the Cowboys, wide receiver Dez Bryant appears on the injury report yet again with his foot issues, but he also should be fine to play.
The Cowboys host the Jets Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 8:25 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
JETS
Start 'em: For much of the season, Ryan Fitzpatrick was a high-floor, middling-ceiling option at quarterback. But then, the last three weeks, he's had at least 24 fantasy points all three times and has averaged 26. That's a starting quarterback. ... If you have Chris Ivory, you're still using him, but there's no denying his production has been less impressive of late. ... Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker have been the league's best 1-2 punch at wide receiver. Marshall is the higher-ceiling option, but both should be good for 8-10 points at worst. ... Randy Bullock is only a passable kicker, but with a strong offense around him he's still a good play.
Start 'em?: Since getting healthy, Bilal Powell has played four games and put up 39 fantasy points. He's a decent flex option in a pinch. ... The Jets' defense has been a little underwhelming, but with a bad offense opposite the unit, it should be fine-to-better.
Sit 'em: The Jets have no fantasy threat at tight end. Sorry, Jeff Cumberland.
COWBOYS
Start 'em: Since taking over as the Cowboys' starting running back, Darren McFadden has 10.9 fantasy points per game, with at least seven points in every game but one. He's a fantasy starter.
Start 'em?: Before Week 14's one fantasy point, Dan Bailey had put up six-plus fantasy points in nine straight and 11 of 12. But the threat of the offense cratering makes him a little risky.
Sit 'em: Take out that randomly productive game against the Eagles, and Matt Cassel is averaging 6.3 fantasy points per game in six games. Yeesh. ... There's just no way you can run Dez Bryant out there in fantasy with any confidence at all. He's a stay-away for me, and Terrance Williams isn't any better. ... Jason Witten hasn't had more than four fantasy points in any of his last seven games. ... The Cowboys' defense has struggled a little more lately, and the Jets have a good offense.
SUMMARY
Start in every league: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Chris Ivory, Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Randy Bullock, Darren McFadden
Start if you’re desperate: Bilal Powell, New York defense, Dan Bailey
Bench: Jeff Cumberland, Matt Cassel, Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, Jason Witten, Dallas defense
