Fantasy football advice, Week 15: Who to start/sit for Bills vs. Washington
Washington can’t really afford any more losses.
Washington is in control of its fortunes the rest of the season. At 6-7, the team has a losing record, but it holds the tiebreakers over both the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants for first place in the NFC East. That means the team just needs wins the rest of the way, starting against the Buffalo Bills Sunday, to make it into the playoffs.
The Bills will be without tight end Charles Clay Sunday, as he is out with a back injury. Running back Karlos Williams will be a game-time decision with a shoulder issue. The team should have wide receiver Robert Woods, however, despite his own hip problems. As for Washington, running back Chris Thompson, who looked headed for injured reserve a week ago, is questionable heading into Sunday, and will be a game-time decision. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson will play despite a knee issue.
Buffalo will be the road team at Washington Sunday, with the game scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
BILLS
Start ‘em: The last three weeks, Tyrod Taylor has averaged 23.3 fantasy points per game. That's way better than what he was doing the few weeks before that, and he looks to be back to QB1 status now. ... LeSean McCoy has at least eight fantasy points in every game this season, and 10-plus in six straight. ... Sammy Watkins is at 19 points a game in his last three. He's played himself into must-start territory.
Start ‘em?: Last week was a big one for Robert Woods, and Washington tends to struggle against No. 2 wide receivers. He's high-risk, high-reward. ... Dan Carpenter has been very up and down this year. He's got some prize to him.
Sit ‘em: With Charles Clay sidelined, Chris Gragg will be the top Buffalo tight end Sunday, but the targets will likely go to receivers and running backs. ... The Bills' defense has three combined fantasy points in its last four games.
WASHINGTON
Start ‘em: Not many tight ends have the same upside as Jordan Reed. There's some risk there, but the payoff is worth it. ... Dustin Hopkins has been a fantasy monster most of the year; he has seven-plus fantasy points in every game but two.
Start ‘em?: The last eight games for Kirk Cousins: 7 fantasy points, 29, 10, 28, 6, 22, 12, 21. No, trends like that aren't safe bets to continue, but it does show that Cousins is really hard to trust week-in, week-out. ... DeSean Jackson's numbers fell off last week after three straight games of 12-plus fantasy points, but that's who he is; a definite shot at big numbers with occasional risk of a goose-egg.
Sit ‘em: If you're starting a Washington running back, it's Matt Jones, but he hasn't exactly been impressive, and the continued presence of Alfred Morris, Chris Thompson and/or Pierre Thomas make it almost impossible to use any of the group. ... It's the fantasy playoffs, and Pierre Garcon hasn't reached double-digit fantasy points since Week 4. Nope. ... The Washington defense hasn't been anything special.
SUMMARY
Start in every league: Tyrod Taylor, LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins, Jordan Reed, Dustin Hopkins
Start if you're desperate: Robert Woods, Dan Carpenter, Kirk Cousins, DeSean Jackson
Bench: Chris Gragg, Buffalo defense, Matt Jones, Alfred Morris, Chris Thompson, Pierre Thomas, Pierre Garcon, Washington defense
