Fantasy football advice, Week 16: Who to start/sit for Jaguars vs. Saints
Jacksonville looks for a late-season miracle.
Both the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints enter Week 16 at 5-9 and out of their respective playoff races. Technically speaking, two wins to end the season and some help could get the Jaguars into the postseason, but the odds are heavily stacked against them. Basically, the two teams are playing each other Sunday while looking ahead to 2016.
The Jaguars are likely to be without running back T.J. Yeldon Sunday for a second straight week. Positionmate Denard Robinson, after looking in doubt early in the week, turns out to be basically fine for the game, as is wide receiver Allen Hurns. On the New Orleans side, there are some real questions. Wide receiver Marques Colston looks unlikely to play, and tight end Benjamin Watson could join him on the sidelines. Quarterback Drew Brees insists he will play through his injuries, but it's worth checking back when reports come out late Sunday morning.
The Saints host the Jaguars Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET. Here’s a look at the fantasy names we’re considering:
JAGUARS
Start ‘em: In his last four games, Blake Bortles has averaged 25.5 fantasy points a game, and now he gets to face the Saints. ... Denard Robinson was a bit underwhelming in last week's start, but he still should get enough work to be in fantasy lineups. ... Allen Robinson has been just about the surest thing in all of fantasy this year. ... Julius Thomas has averaged 10 fantasy points a game in his last five. That's a starter. ... The offense should perform well Sunday, giving Jason Myers plenty of kicking chances.
Start ‘em?: The stock is a bit down for Allen Hurns. He’s a decent flex play.
Sit ‘em: The Jaguars’ defense is no great shakes, facing what should be a more than competent New Orleans offense.
SAINTS
Start ‘em: We're progressing as though Drew Brees is playing Sunday, making him a low-end must-start; if he's out, basically the whole offense sees a huge downgrade. ... Brandin Cooks has been a huge performer in the second half. He's a must-start.
Start ‘em?: In two games as the Saints' primary back, Tim Hightower has averaged only 3.4 yards per carry. The team needs to be ahead for him to be productive. ... Willie Snead has been strong of late, but if the offense is held up at all, he seems like the one who would suffer.
Sit ‘em: Between his own injury and his quarterbacks, I'm just saying to avoid Benjamin Watson this week. There are safer options elsewhere. ... Kai Forbath hasn't been anything even approaching consistent this season. ... The Saints' defense has a combined negative-five fantasy points in its last seven games.
SUMMARY
Start in every league: Blake Bortles, Denard Robinson, Allen Robinson, Julius Thomas, Jason Myers, Drew Brees, Brandin Cooks
Start if you're desperate: Allen Hurns, Tim Hightower, Willie Snead
Bench: Jacksonville defense, Benjamin Watson, Kai Forbath, New Orleans defense
