Fantasy football advice, Week 16: Who to start/sit for Packers vs. Cardinals
Two of the NFC’s best teams face off Sunday afternoon.
The Arizona Cardinals have been clicking on all cylinders, winning eight in a row and sitting at 12-2 through 14 games. The Green Bay Packers, meanwhile, are 10-4 and have won three in a row, but they have been a much less impressive team, squeaking out some wins and struggling on offense. Still, the game between the two Sunday should be a big-time matchup.
Green Bay running back Eddie Lacy is dealing with a rib injury that likely held him up a week ago as well, but he should be fine for Sunday's game. The Cardinals, meanwhile, expect all three of their fantasy-relevant players on the injury report (quarterback Carson Palmer, running back Andre Ellington and tight end Jermaine Gresham) to be good to go.
The two teams face off in Arizona Sunday, with a 4:25 p.m. ET scheduled start time. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
PACKERS
Start ‘em: It's been a confusing season for Aaron Rodgers owners, but it's still Aaron Rodgers, and you're stuck using him. ... No player has been a more confounding fantasy owner than Eddie Lacy this year, but it sounds like he's healthier this week, and that makes him a high-upside RB2. ... The season-ending injury to Tyrann Mathieu should mean good things for Randall Cobb, as Cobb spends his time in the slot and that's Mathieu's wheelhouse. Use Cobb.
Start ‘em?: It's always possible Lacy finds himself back in the Green Bay doghouse, which makes James Starks a good play. High-risk, high-reward. ... Since his huge Thursday game, Richard Rodgers has six fantasy points in two games. ... Mason Crosby has been wildly inconsistent this season.
Sit ‘em: It's been several weeks since Davante Adams was any real help in fantasy. ... James Jones had a big Week 15, but he had five points in three games before that. ... The Packers' defense has been decent of late, but Arizona is always a tough matchup for any defense.
CARDINALS
Start ‘em: A brief scare about Carson Palmer's finger appears to have been only brief, so he's back among starting quarterbacks for Week 16. ... David Johnson might be the best running-back option across the whole league this week. ... Chandler Catanzaro has been a huge fantasy kicker all season. ... Any defense playing against Green Bay is at least a risky play, but the Cardinals' defense deserves a look anyway.
Start ‘em?: I don't know what to expect out of the Arizona wide receivers at this point. Any one or two of John Brown, Michael Floyd or Larry Fitzgerald could have a big game, but it's very unlikely all three will, and it's almost impossible to know which.
Sit ‘em: In Week 1, Darren Fells put up 14 fantasy points. He hasn't gone over eight since, and has put up 0-2 most often.
