Fantasy football advice, Week 13: Who to start/sit for Packers vs. Lions on Thursday night

Can Green Bay get revenge and get back on the right track in the NFC North?

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers looked like as sure a thing as there was in the NFL a few weeks ago, when they were 6-0 and marching through the league. On the flip side, the Detroit Lions started 0-5 and 1-7. But now, we're heading into Week 13, the Packers have lost four of five, the Lions have won three in a row. Green Bay sits at 7-4 and the Lions are 4-7, pulling both toward the mean faster than we ever would have guessed. They face off Thursday, with Green Bay looking to get revenge for their Week 10 loss.

The Packers come into Thursday's game basically healthy from a fantasy perspective; the team will be without wide receiver Ty Montgomery for another week, though he's only a fringe fantasy performer as it is. As for the Lions, the team's top three receivers -- Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate and Lance Moore -- are all on the injury report. Johnson and Tate are expected to be fine for Thursday's game, but Moore is more of a question mark after leaving the team's Thanksgiving game with an ankle injury.

The Lions host the Packers Thursday, with kickoff scheduled for 8:25 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:

PACKERS

Start 'em: It's impossible not to have been crazy frustrated with Aaron Rodgers of late; he's averaged 17.3 fantasy points a game since Week 3 and 15.1 if you take out that monster game against Carolina. Still, he is who he is, and I don't know how you can bench him. ... Since missing Week 10, Eddie Lacy has put up 19 and 17 fantasy points. He appears to be fixed.

Start 'em?: The resurgence of Lacy pushes James Starks back to flex territory at best. ... I still think you're using Randall Cobb if you have him, but it's admittedly not an exciting play. ... You have to think the Green Bay offense will improve, which would bump Mason Crosby back up, but it hasn't happened much.

Sit 'em: The targets are going to Davante Adams, but he isn't doing much with him, and James Jones isn't getting the looks as a result. Neither is really startable right now. ... Richard Rodgers is getting a handful of targets, but he's still averaging under 27 yards a game. He needs a touchdown to help you, and those aren't plentiful. ... The Detroit offense has turned things around lately, and the Packers' defense is averaging 1.8 fantasy points a game in its last six. There's been some improvement the last few games, but overall there has to be a better option for you.

LIONS

Start ‘em: With at least eight fantasy points in six straight weeks, you were using Calvin Johnson even if he hadn’t erupted for 27 in Week 12, but it was certainly nice to see the monster performance still in his back pocket.

Start 'em?: Through Week 10, Matthew Stafford had eclipsed 20 fantasy points once all season, but he's now done so in back to back games, including a 34-point monster performance on Thanksgiving. To be fair, the Philadelphia defense gets a lot of credit for that, but Stafford is trending upward. ... Golden Tate has increased his fantasy performance in five straight games. That still has only peaked at 11 fantasy points, but he's doing relatively well. ... Matt Prater has kicked for nine-plus in three straight games, seven-plus in five of his last six.

Sit 'em: If you're using a Detroit running back, it's clearly Theo Riddick in PPR and either he or Joique Bell in standard -- you can safely ignore Ameer Abdullah in either format -- but in general you can do better elsewhere. ... The interesting fantasy sleeper that was Eric Ebron early in the season has disappeared; he has two or fewer fantasy points in five of his last six games. ... The Lions' defense is trending up slightly, but still is a question mark against what should be a strong Green Bay offense.

SUMMARY

Start in every league: Aaron Rodgers, Eddie Lacy, Calvin Johnson
Start if you’re desperate: James Starks, Randall Cobb, Mason Crosby, Matthew Stafford, Golden Tate, Matt Prater
Bench: Davante Adams, James Jones, Richard Rodgers, Green Bay defense, Theo Riddick, Joique Bell, Ameer Abdullah, Eric Ebron, Detroit defense
