Fantasy football projections, Week 13: Eagles-Patriots featuring DeMarco Murray, Tom Brady and Scott Chandler
We break down the Week 13 matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles walked into Detroit to play one of the worst teams in the league on Thanksgiving Day and promptly got their feathers handed to them by the Lions. Running back DeMarco Murray saw a limited number of touches as the Eagles played from behind, but even still, his production numbers weren’t very good. On 14 carries he finished with just 30 yards rushing. No matter which way you split it, Murray just hasn’t been good enough this year. It might be tough for him to pick things up against the Patriots who have been fairly good against the run this season. Consider also that the Eagles will likely play from behind again, and Murray’s prospects don’t look good in Week 13.
Wide receiver Jordan Matthews, on the other hand, may fare a little better. The Patriots don’t have a problem giving up points to wide receivers and the Eagles are going to need to run and gun with them in order to keep up. So while the fact that Matthews has only surpassed 60 yards receiving in a game once since Week 2 is concerning, there may be some upside here. He should be fairly active against New England. How effective he will be, however, is a question that remains to be answered.
New England Patriots
And so it happened. Tom Brady and the New England Patriots lost their first regular season game of the year. It was a close call, but at the end of the day the Denver Broncos came out victorious. Although the loss stung the Patriots, Tom Brady’s fantasy owners probably didn’t notice. He still completed 23 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns. Brady has played with a chip on his shoulder all season long and he should light up the Eagles this Sunday.
Unfortunately tight end Rob Gronkowski won’t be able to do the same. He suffered a knee injury last week and it means that his backup Scott Chandler will draw the start against the Eagles. Chandler was targeted 11 times against the Broncos and caught five passes for 58 yards and a touchdown. While he may not have as big a name as Gronkowski, Chandler has proved to be an effective pass catcher in the past, having briefly starred for the Buffalo Bills. With Brady as his quarterback, Chandler will definitely put up numbers, especially this week.
