Fantasy football advice, Week 13: Who to start/sit for Jets vs. Giants
Which New York team will win the battle of New Jersey?
You've heard it all before, but it's still really stupid that New York plays New York, both in their home stadiums, and the game takes place in New Jersey. Still, the Jets are the "road" team against the Giants Sunday. The Jets, at 6-5, are in the thick of the AFC Wild Card race, while the 5-6 Giants are tied for first in the NFC East despite a losing record.
For what feels like the nth week in a row, the Jets have quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker on the injury report, but all three are expected to play Sunday and be fine. On the Giants' side, tight end Larry Donnell will miss another game (he could miss the rest of the season), but the rest of the team's fantasy contributors should be fine for the game.
The Giants are the nominal hosts for Sunday’s game, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
JETS
Start ‘em: The last seven weeks, Chris Ivory has put up double-digit fantasy points five times and fallen to three points twice. He's far more good than bad. ... Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker have had the highest weekly floor of any team's 1-2 receiver combination.
Start ‘em?: Week 12 was huge for Ryan Fitzpatrick, with 29 fantasy points. Against a generous defense, he again has a high ceiling, but Fitzpatrick's normal game is generally in the mid-teens. He's got a high floor, though. ... Randy Bullock has been on two teams for the season, but hasn't reached double-digit fantasy points with either. Still, he hasn't had fewer than five points in a game all season.
Sit ‘em: If you own Ivory, Bilal Powell is a strong (and perhaps necessary) handcuff, but he's not worth a lineup slot on his own. ... The Jets' leading tight end, Jeff Cumberland, has 77 yards on the season. ... With Darrelle Revis out for another week, it's hard to find a reason to use the Jets' defense.
GIANTS
Start ‘em: There might be no more appealing fantasy player this week than a Darrelle Revis-less Odell Beckham Jr. ... Josh Brown had an awful Week 12, but otherwise he's been a fantasy monster almost every week.
Start ‘em?: While Eli Manning has lacked consistency this season, he's had really high ceilings. With an elite weapon like Beckham, he's probably a starter in most situations. ... Behind Beckham, both Rueben Randle and Will Tye are interesting diving-deep options at their positions.
Sit ‘em: The Jets have a strong run defense, with a pass defense that currently can't keep up. The Giants already have a bad run game. There's really no reason at all to touch Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen, Andre Williams or Orleans Darkwa. ... The Giants' defense just hasn't offered a lot, and the Jets have a good offense.
SUMMARY
Start in every league: Chris Ivory, Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Odell Beckham Jr., Josh Brown
