Fantasy football advice, Week 13: Who to start/sit for Eagles vs. Patriots
Can New England avoid the fate that has befallen other first-loss teams?
When the Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals each finally experienced their first loss of the season, they couldn't bounce back right away; all three teams lost two in a row. The New England Patriots look to avoid that issue Sunday, coming back from their first loss of the season and hoping to win against the 4-7 Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles will be without running back Ryan Mathews for the second straight week Sunday, but should get quarterback Sam Bradford back after missing a couple games with injury. Wide receivers Nelson Agholor and Josh Huff and tight end Zach Ertz should all play through their respective injuries. The Patriots, meanwhile, will be without wide receiver Julian Edelman and tight end Rob Gronkowski for Sunday. Wide receiver Danny Amendola is tentatively expected to return from injury, though we might not officially know his status until close to game time. Tight end Scott Chandler will play despite an appearance on the injury report.
The Patriots will host the Eagles Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
EAGLES
Start ‘em: You're still using DeMarco Murray if you have him, but he has been wildly disappointing of late.
Start ‘em?: The only Philadelphia receiver worth any sort of look is Jordan Matthews, and he has seven games this season of five or fewer fantasy points. A lot of risk there.
Sit ‘em: It's not like Sam Bradford was some fantasy monster before his injury; he isn't likely to be one in his return, either. ... Darren Sproles has had exactly one game of any fantasy quality since Week 3. ... Behind Matthews, Nelson Agholor and Josh Huff are just not doing enough. ... The return of Zach Ertz should render both him and Brent Celek as afterthoughts. ... The Eagles' struggles of late have kept Caleb Sturgis from doing much. ... The Eagles' defense has fallen apart.
PATRIOTS
Start ‘em: Even without all of his weapons, you're using Tom Brady in all leagues. ... With Rob Gronkowski out, Scott Chandler should see an enormous boost in targets. He's an easy TE1 for me. ... Stephen Gostkowski and the Patriots' defense are both locked into starting lineups every week.
Start ‘em?: Remember when we were all excited about LeGarrette Blount? He has seven fantasy points total the last two weeks. He's still a guy with RB1 upside, but his floor is low. ... Brandon LaFell is the only one of the Patriots' normal wide receivers sure to be active Sunday, though his inconsistency makes him a flex play. ... If Danny Amendola is active Sunday, you're using him, but the late start of the game and the question marks around him mean you have to have a backup plan in case he's scratched.
Sit ‘em: Last week, Brandon Bolden outpaced James White. Who knows if that will continue; best bet is to avoid both for now.
