Fantasy football advice, Week 13: Who to start/sit for Cowboys vs. Washington on Monday night
Can Washington stay out in front in the woeful NFC East?
The Dallas Cowboys' season has taken an awful turn, derailed by injuries that have the team sitting at 3-8. Washington, meanwhile, is treating its season as a success despite a losing 5-6 record, because that 5-6 has the team sitting atop the NFC East, holding a tiebreaker over the New York Giants. Monday, the two teams face one another, looking for wins for different reasons; Washington to stay out in front, Dallas just to salvage some respectability.
The Cowboys will be without quarterback Tony Romo, but should have all the rest of their fantasy options good to go for Monday's game. Washington, meanwhile, has running back Chris Thompson on the injury report, but he's expected to be fine for the game.
Washington hosts Dallas Monday, with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
COWBOYS
Start ‘em: Washington isn't a great matchup for a running back, but Darren McFadden is getting enough looks that he warrants a start everywhere. ... Dan Bailey has six-plus fantasy points in eight straight games and 10 times in 11 outings this year.
Start ‘em?: With a backup quarterback leading the way, Dez Bryant has a very limited upside.
Sit ‘em: Without Tony Romo, the Cowboys don't have much of an offense; Matt Cassel has been an awful fill-in. ... Terrance Williams has three or fewer fantasy points five times in his last seven games. He's not a fantasy option. ... Jason Witten hasn't had much to offer anyone most of the season. ... The Cowboys' defense hasn't been special this year.
WASHINGTON
Start ‘em: He's cooled a bit, but Jordan Reed is still an easy TE1.
Start ‘em?: With back-to-back games of 12-plus fantasy points, DeSean Jackson is firmly back in high-upside flex territory. ... Dustin Hopkins was really strong early in the season, but he's tapered off. ... The Washington defense is only okay, but you like any defense facing Cassel at quarterback.
Sit ‘em: I'll admit to seeing some of Kirk Cousins' stock rising. One more big game and I'll really have to reconsider. ... The only Washington running back you're considering using is Alfred Morris — over Matt Jones and Chris Thompson — but it's been too hard to count on any of them. ... Neither Pierre Garcon nor Jamison Crowder has had much to offer fantasy players the last couple weeks.
SUMMARY

Start if you're desperate: Dez Bryant, DeSean Jackson, Dustin Hopkins, Washington defense
Bench: Matt Cassel, Terrance Williams, Jason Witten, Dallas defense, Kirk Cousins, Alfred Morris, Matt Jones, Chris Thompson, Pierre Garcon, Jamison Crowder
