Niles Paul was carted off the field on Thursday. It was later revealed that Paul suffered an ankle fracture. On Sunday, Washington officially placed him on season-ending IR. At the time of his injury, Paul was at the top of Washington's depth chart. Fellow tight end Jordan Reed hasn't been able to put together a full season due to various injuries. In fact, Reed is currently dealing with a hamstring injury but is expected to return for Washington's second preseason game.
Niles Paul placed on injured reserve, Jordan Reed fantasy stock rises
Niles Paul will miss the 2015 season with an ankle injury. We take a look at the fantasy implications.

Paul began his 2014 season strong after filling in for an injured Reed. Paul racked up 313 yards and one touchdown through four games to start the season. Paul eventually disappeared as Reed returned and the team was being led by three different quarterbacks throughout the season.
Fantasy impact: Just when fantasy owners thought there was a tight end with a firm grip on starting duties in Washington, it all falls apart. It’s certainly a disappointment, but we have no less clarity on the situation: Reed will be the starter provided Washington doesn’t look for outside competition.
Past fantasy owners of Reed should be familiar with his inconsistent availability. He offers plenty of upside, especially with virtually zero competition at his position. The question remains whether or not he can sustain an entire season without injury. Judging by his current preseason ailment, the outlook isn’t great. Regardless, Reed will enter the season as a solid TE1 with upside.
