Joique Bell is closer to returning to the field for the Detroit Lions. Meanwhile, Ameer Abdullah is making a name for himself regardless of the fact that Theo Riddick is seeing some opportunities atop the depth chart. There is a lot of activity in the Lions' backfield. If anyone is hoping for closure on the matter, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has a simple answer for you: The Lions will operate with a full blown committee approach.
Matthew Stafford confirms Lions backfield as ‘committee,’ Joique Bell and Ameer Abdullah fantasy value hold steady
Matthew Stafford isn’t shying away from declaring the Lions’ backfield as a committee. We take a look at the fantasy implications.

Speaking with the media about Thursday’s preseason game, Stafford stated that, even when Bell returns, “It’s going to be a committee.” It might be for the best if the Lions stick to this approach. Abdullah, while offering the most upside, may operate better in a complimentary role during his rookie season. The same applies to Bell, who is now 29 years old. Bell would be better off being used for tough yardage and not getting worn down with a heavy workload.
Fantasy impact: This really shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Bell has been sidelined as he recovers from a knee/Achilles injury. Abdullah has been outstanding as a result. A timeshare doesn’t necessarily mean fantasy value is watered down. In fact, Abdullah could benefit from avoiding a “rookie wall” with a heavy workload. His fantasy ADP is hovering around the fourth round in most leagues, which is a steep asking price for a rookie in a committee. Provided he doesn’t break past that point, Abdullah should thrive as an RB2 especially in PPR formats. Bell is a suitable flex option.
