The fantasy implications of Green Bay Packers receiver Jordy Nelson suffering an ACL tear are almost as vast as it gets. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers loses his best target, receiver Randall Cobb becomes a clear-cut WR1 in PPR leagues, and Davante Adams can be viewed as a WR2-3.
Is Ty Montgomery a fantasy football breakout candidate for 2015?
Everyone is talking about who steps up for Jordy Nelson (knee) in Green Bay. Should you spend a late pick on Ty Montgomery?

It’s not just that, though. The Packers arguably have the best passing offense in the NFL, so there could be a third cog in their well-oiled machine of an offense. Who could it be?
Well, there's some buzz around receiver Jeff Janis, but ESPN's Rob Demovsky said receiver Ty Montgomery could be asked to make some plays. "Although he’s a receiver by trade, don’t be surprised if he breaks a long kick return or two, and he could even carry the ball on an end around or a reserve," Demovsky said. "He’s a multi-dimensional player who might be the Packers’ most impressive rookie."
Interestingly, Demovsky doesn’t come out and say that Montgomery is clearly ahead of Janis for work as the third receiver, and in fact he specifically notes how Montgomery could factor into other parts of the offense besides passing. It’s also worth mentioning that Janis was the first receiver to replace Nelson after the ACL injury. There is no clear answer to this question yet.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that Davante Adams is the guy you want in the middle rounds. Montgomery is still worth a look and you could wind up using him as a WR in the right matchups.
