Along with the data from NumberFire, we’ll be adding some news, matchup information and other information to complement the projections.
Here’s a look at the Week 1 running backs:
Top-tier options
The Packers should be piling on the points against the Bears, so that means there should be a lot of production out of Eddie Lacy. With the Packers missing Jordy Nelson, Lacy should get a ton of looks around the goal line and is probably the best bet to clear 100 yards among all running backs.
DeMarco Murray was the NFL’s best running back last season and now he has coach Chip Kelly running the show. Plus, the Eagles offensive line is also terrific to help pave the way for Murray -- yes, the Cowboys have a better line. He’ll get the Falcons and should shred them on Monday night.
Jamaal Charles has been the focal point of the Chiefs offense and that’ll be the case once again. The Texans have one of the best pass rushes in the NFL, so Alex Smith will likely have to use Charles in the passing game as a hot-route option. Plus, they need to run the ball.
Bargains
Chris Ivory has run away with the starting job and he could get 20-25 touches against the Browns. Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey absolutely will need the run to help set up his offense, so we could see Ivory busting loose for 150 and 1-2 scores. He’s the best option under $8K and is just $6,400.
Jonathan Stewart is hurt a heck of a lot, but he’s healthy now and he gets the porous Jaguars defense. The Panthers do not have a strong passing attack right now and Stewart should be very busy with 18-22 touches.
Elite players with sub-par matchups
Mark Ingram is going put up some huge lines, but the Cardinals are one of the best teams at stopping the run. It’ll likely be Drew Brees putting up the yards. The worst part about this is that C.J. Spiller isn’t expected to play, so the matchup comes at the wrong time.
Justin Forsett is in a wonderful scheme, he has very little competition and will get all of the goal line work. However, he has to travel to Denver to face the Broncos. We’ll see some huge games from him this year, but he’s not a great play this week in cash games.
