Buffalo Bills veteran quarterback Matt Cassel will be cut by the team, according to beat writer Vic Carucci. Cassel completed 13 passes for 87 yards in preseason action, and Tyrod Taylor supplanted him as the team’s starting quarterback for Week 1. E.J. Manuel will serve as Taylor’s backup.
Matt Cassel expected to be cut, fantasy value next to nothing
Bills quarterback Matt Cassel may find himself getting cut by the team. We break down the fantasy implications.

Fantasy Impact: Although coach Rex Ryan seemed pretty open-minded about who would start at quarterback in Buffalo since the beginning of training camp, most people believed that the job was Cassel’s to lose. While Manuel didn’t do much to pose a threat to Cassel, Taylor performed quite well. He exhibited accuracy from the pocket but even more importantly, showed an ability to scramble and rush for added yardage that the other two pivots simply don’t possess.
Fantasy owners may want to take a look at Taylor in deeper leagues and two-quarterback formats. He doesn’t have a lot of experience given that he was a backup to Joe Flacco in Baltimore for the last three years, but it does appear that he could be a diamond in the rough for owners that pick him up off the waiver wire during the season.
