Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 10

We’re back with fantasy football advice on who to start and sit in Week 10.

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Well, it certainly feels good to look somewhat intelligent again. Last week's column offered mostly correct advice, including starting Mark Ingram, Donte Moncrief, and Antonio Gates. You were also advised to sit Isaiah Crowell, Marvin Jones, and Michael Crabtree.

There were full misses, as always, in full disclosure. Quincy Enunwa cannot be trusted, and the matchup between Tyrod Taylor and Russell Wilson actually produced two QB1s.

Start

QB Marcus Mariota vs. Packers
Mariota made the start list last week, and he posted 300-plus yards and four touchdowns against the Chargers. Now he faces a decent matchup with a Packers secondary that is still banged up. Mariota ranks third in fantasy points per game among quarterbacks over the last five weeks. He's taking advantage of middling matchups, like the one he'll see Sunday. Continue to ride that momentum.

QB Eli Manning vs. Bengals
It's easy to be wary of starting Manning. He's been anything but consistent in 2016. Last week offered some promise, though, as he threw four touchdowns against a decent Eagles defense. The Bengals allow the fifth-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. They gave up 458 yards to Kirk Cousins in Week 8 (keep in mind that went into overtime). With a couple top passers on bye, Manning should be a good spot start.

RB Jordan Howard at Buccaneers
The future started to look bleak for a bit, but Howard's resurgence in Week 8 should put the doubt to rest. He went off for 202 total yards and a touchdown against Minnesota. Tampa gives up the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing running backs, allowing nine total touchdowns to the position over eight games. The Bears could always decide to throw in their lesser-talented backs, but the job is Howard's right now.

RB Devontae Booker at Saints
Another running back with potential committee concerns, Booker was ineffective against the Raiders in Week 9. Kapri Bibbs was praised for his play, but he only received three touches and gained nearly all of his yardage on one 69-yard reception. Even if Bibbs does eat into Booker's workload in Week 10, the Saints are the second-best fantasy matchup for running backs. Both of Denver's backs are possible flex plays, and Booker should be on the RB2 radar.

WR Kenny Britt at Jets
Their stats received a boost from playing a Dolphins passing attack that can't pass the ball, but the secondary is a huge weakness for New York. Five wide receivers have broken the 100-yard mark against the Jets, and they've allowed 10 touchdowns to the position. After posting a season-high in snaps last week, Britt should continue to serve as a viable WR3/flex option.

WR Rishard Matthews vs. Packers
The man is a touchdown machine. Matthews scored five times in his last five games. The Packers have allowed 11 touchdowns to wide receivers. With Matthews playing nearly 90 percent of the Titans offensive snaps and Mariota continuing to look his way in scoring situations, he's the one to trust in this receiving corps on Sunday. Kendall Wright should also be a decent flex option against a defense that struggles with slot wideouts.

TE Zach Ertz vs. Falcons
Did the Eagles finally realize they're allowed to utilize their starting tight end? They force-fed Ertz the ball in Week 9, resulting in eight catches for 97 yards. Now he faces a Falcons defense that gives up the fifth-most fantasy points per game to tight ends. The Eagles receiver corps continues to disappoint as a whole. They need Ertz to stay involved to sustain their passing game.

TE Zach Miller at Buccaneers
It's a good week for tight ends named Zach. Tampa Bay's defense is proving to be a haven for tight ends, giving up 78 yards and two touchdowns to the Falcons, 67 yards and a touchdown to the Raiders, and 181 yards to Greg Olsen in the last three matchups. Miller saw the most targets from Jay Cutler last week. Expect that favoritism to continue.

Sit

QB Kirk Cousins vs. Vikings
His aforementioned 458-yard game instilled more confidence in his owners, but Cousins comes off a bye to face the fourth-toughest fantasy defense for quarterbacks. The Vikings defense ranks toward the top of the league with only eight passing touchdowns allowed in eight games. Only two defense have more interceptions. Now playing without starting left guard Trent Williams, Cousins' hopes of delivering another QB1 performance are slim.

QB Colin Kaepernick at Cardinals
While you should keep in mind that the Cardinals have allowed the most rushing yards to quarterbacks, you should also note they've only given up five passing touchdowns in 2016. The last quarterback to score against Arizona was, of course, Blaine Gabbert back in Week 5. Kaepernick turned out to be a great streaming option in Week 9 against a porous Saints defense, but the Cardinals are coming off a bye, and they'll be a much tougher test for Kaepernick.

RB Christine Michael at Patriots
Hopefully you sold high while you had the chance. CJ Prosise took 55 percent of the snaps in Week 9, while Michael gained 1 yard on five carries. He did manage to score a touchdown, so that helped salvage things a bit, but the past three games look discouraging for him. The Patriots have allowed four rushing touchdowns to running backs. Factor that in with Prosise's bump in playing time, and Michael looks like one to avoid again.

RB Robert Kelley vs. Vikings
Aside from the complete breakdown against Jordan Howard in Week 8, the Vikings have been stout facing the run. Only two running backs have scored against Minnesota. Kelley took over as the starter for Washington and proved himself with 87 yards and a touchdown against the Bengals. But Chris Thompson retains the receiving role out of the backfield, and it’s unlikely to be a high-scoring afternoon for this offense. Kelley is a flex play at best in my book.

WR Jarvis Landry at Chargers
We can probably just thrown in the entire Dolphins receiving depth chart. Landry is dealing with a shoulder injury, but if he's able to go, his stock is still on the decline. Landry caught three passes for 33 yards in Week 9, as Jay Ajayi continued to be the focal point of the Miami offense. The Dolphins have acknowledged the need to get Landry more involved, but he's a liability in your lineup until that happens, especially playing at less than 100 percent. Stills might be a solid DFS play if you're looking for home run potential. The Chargers secondary has been most affected by the deep ball.

WR Marqise Lee vs. Texans
Three of his last four games have produced double-digit PPR days. However, Lee has yet to score in 2016, and now he's facing a defense that allows the third-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. Allen Hurns could miss Week 10, which would provide a bit of a bump for Lee, but I'm not willing to chase the upside in this matchup.

TE CJ Fiedorowicz at Jaguars
With three touchdowns over his last five games, Fiedorowicz started to look like a decent streamer. Coming off their bye, the Texans will face a Jaguars defense that has allowed one touchdown to tight ends all season. Only two tight ends finished with more than 50 yards receiving against Jacksonville in the first half of the season. Fiedorowicz is not someone who's likely to shine in a tough matchup.
