Coming off of his best season since his big rookie year, running back Doug Martin re-upped with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, agreeing on a five-year deal. Martin returns to the situation where he was No. 2 in the NFL in rushing yards in 2015.

Martin in 2015 had 1,402 rushing yards on 288 carries, adding 271 receiving yards. He scored seven total touchdowns and played 16 games for the first time since his 2012 rookie year, when he had 1,454 total rushing yards and 12 total touchdowns. He will be the No. 1 in a backfield that also includes Charles Sims, who had 1,090 yards from scrimmage in 2015, roughly splitting his yardage between carries and receptions.
Fantasy impact: Martin wasn’t likely to find a better situation than the one in Tampa Bay, where new head coach Dirk Koetter is a confessed fan of the back. Sims remains around, which will prevent Martin from having serious extra PPR value, but he’ll be the definite No. 1 for carries in Tampa Bay, which should keep him as a low-end RB1 in fantasy as long as he’s healthy.
